The Old Court was the first royal court in Bucharest and consisted of a palace, a church, a royal chancellery and impressive gardens. Currently, the Old Court is an outdoor museum which organizes festivals and fairs of medieval art, concerts and plays.

Royal Court lies on the surface comprised between the today streets Hale, Selari, Lipscani Baratiei and Mosilor. Over time, Bucharest suffered major urban changes and now the old yard doesn’t meet with the old descriptions. The Royal Court access was through two gates opposite. The first gate was located at the intersection between Halls and Smardan and it has several names: Poarta de Sus, Turnul despre nemti and Bell Tower Royal. The second gate was located at the start of Mosilor street and was called the Lower Gate.

After the two disasters in the eighteenth century, which destroyed the yard and associated buildings, was built a new yard Court Nine. Old Court is located on French Street, No 25-31, known as outside museum. The Court has the status of old open-air museum, now. Old Court Museum was opened in 1972 and represents an original arrangement remains of the royal residences of the XVI-XIX. Now, you can see the foundations of the fortress of the fourteenth century stone walls of the fortress of Bucharest.

The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, between 10:00 and 15:00, is closed Monday. Admission is free.
